Catholic Social Teaching
We thought parents and family members might like to hear about some of the many ways we teach Catholic Social Teaching through the work we do in school.
Catholic Social Teaching tells us how our Catholic Faith guides our actions. Our faith calls us to love God and to love our neighbours in every situation, especially our sisters and brothers living in poverty. Following in the footsteps of Christ, we hope to make present in our unjust and broken world, the justice, love and peace of God.
Catholic Social Teaching comes from scripture, letters written by popes and holy people, and the examples set by Christians through history.

We recognise Catholic Social Teaching in our daily school life, and we ensure that children are taught the nine principles.

Human Dignity
EVERYONE IS SPECIAL
This means that every person is special and important because we are all made in the image of God. We should treat others with kindness and respect.
Solidarity
SHOWING WE CARE
This is about sticking together and helping one another. We should care about all people, no matter where they come from or what they look like.
Subsidiarity
EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE A SAY
This means that decisions should be made by the people who are closest to the situation. It means that we should respect the ideas and choices of individuals and communities.

THINKING OF EVERYONE
This is about making sure everyone has what they need to be happy and healthy. We should work together to create a society where everyone can thrive.
Preferential Option For The Poor
PUTTING PEOPLE MOST IN NEED FIRST
This means that we should take extra care of people who are poor or struggling. We should help them and fight against unfairness. The most vulnerable in society should be put at the heart of all decisions.
Peace
BEING PEACEMAKERS
Peace means living in harmony and resolving conflicts without violence. We should work to create a world where people can live peacefully together.
Rights & Responsibilities
SHARING FAIRLY
Everyone has certain rights, like the right to be treated fairly and the right to have basic needs met. But along with these rights, we also have responsibilities to respect the rights of others and help make sure everyone is treated well.
Participation
TAKING PART
This means that everyone should have a say and be involved in decisions that affect them. It's important for everyone's voice to be heard and for us to work together to make choices that are fair and inclusivity.

Common Good
Our dedicated staff share their time and talents with other schools across our Trust and the North East. Delivering training and sharing their talents for curriculum planning. This is because we believe every child has the right to a quality education. To achieve that our brilliant staff share their knowledge with staff from other schools through our Trust - Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust; Local hubs; Local universities and within our community.
